I was apprenticed at 16 years old for 7 years and worked mainly as on Victorian houses in Sussex, renovating and extending. Occasionally I had a chance to work on Kent barns and out houses. Converting these into living spaces teaches a tradesmen a great deal about traditional joinery skills along with the basic carpentry skills used for over 200 years.

Since going alone I have been privileged to work on a 16th century Manor House creating huge oak tables, panelled rooms and recreating whole rooms back to their original state but concentrating mainly on renovation and up-keep of Victorian houses in and around Hastings.

Bearing in mind my background as an apprentice and my experience over 30 years, I believe I can tackle any woodworking task set before me in a professional manner.

I left school at 16 years old with a CSE grade 1 in woodwork. I Went on to take a construction course at Basildon college where I was taught all aspects of construction / woodwork. I left college having attained an NVQ standard.

I started out as a shop fitter / improver doing various work in banks and building societies. All this work was carried out to a very high specification. I did this for 2 years before leaving to work for a firm that specialised in new build housing. In doing this I became used to working with power tools, heavy plant, working with cranes etc. All manner of materials, adhesives and fixings. All the work had to be carried out in a thorough manner and again to a high standard.

In the 18 years as a house builder I found that the more care I took in each aspect of the job I carried out, the less chance there was at being asked to come back later and do it again. A lesson well learned and one that I still bear in mind - Do It Once and Do It Right!.

The more I worked on-site the more I learned about project management and Health & Safety. Both are necessary for a job to run smoothly and without incident. I had worked on housing for 18 years before A & P Construction was formed and the rest as they say, is history.
